Preview: West Ham Vs Leicester City

Leicester City will face West Ham on Sunday afternoon in a must-win game for the Foxes to keep their hopes of survival in the WSL alive.

Leicester are searching for their first points of the season after losing all seven games, and will be hoping to improve on their two goals scored so far. West Ham, on the other hand, will be looking to take all three points and record their third home win of the season, which could see them up to 5th place and extend their 12 goals scored, against a Leicester side who can't stop conceding.

Leicester were beaten 4-0 by a very dominant Arsenal side in their last WSL outing, extending their goals conceded to 16. Paul Konchesky's West Ham lost 5-4 to Brighton at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

Konchesky currently has four players that are recovering from long-term injuries. Jess Ziu, Lucy Parker and Emma Snerle are unavailable for this fixture. Mackenzie Arnold didn't feature in the Irons’ 5-4 defeat against Brighton last weekend, and it is not yet known if the Australian goalkeeper will be fit enough to play.

Welsh midfielder Carrie Jones is confident the Foxes can pick up points: "We’ve had a tough run of games with Arsenal and Man City and going into West Ham I know they’re a good team, but I truly believe that we can get something from it.

"Deep down, I know we’ve got enough in this team to do what we need to do to stay up."

Leicester City Women's Head Coach Willie Kirk: "I’m very confident [LCFC Women can turn things around], I know we’ve got a very robust and well thought-through points target, so we’re confident it will not just allow us to survive but place us in a positive position. We’re looking to improve significantly on last year’s total.

"I think it’s important that the players have been through it before, and I’ve certainly been through it."

Willie Kirk will manage his second game for Leicester after stepping up from his position as Director of Football to replace Lydia Bedford.

Kirk saved Everton from relegation four seasons ago, having taken over with them bottom of the league: "This is a tougher challenge, the WSL is so much more competitive. Four years ago Yeovil got a points deduction to help us out. We’re going to have to do it the harder way."
