First half goal boosts Leicester's WSL survival hopes

Leicester City beat Liverpool 1-0 thanks to an 8th minute goal from Hannah Cain in Sunday afternoon's Barclays Women's Super League fixture at Prenton Park.

The Foxes secured their second win of the season, which closes the gap with Reading to just one point.
The game started and Leicester were the dominant side, it wasn't long before the deadlock was broken.
In the 8th minute, Hannah Cain found the net through a short corner.
The Welsh forward took a low shot from the centre of the box and the ball fired past Laws, following a well-worked short corner from Courtney Nevin.
Less than 10 minutes later, CJ Bott's looping shot from outside the box was tipped onto the crossbar by the Liverpool keeper.
In the 20th minute, goalscorer Hannah Cain's header from the left side of the six yard box missed the goal and went out for a goalkick, following a cross by Missy Goodwin.
Towards the end of the first-half
Ceri Holland's left footed shot from the centre of the box was blocked by a Leicester player.
The half ended 1-0 to a dominant Foxes side.
Less than five minutes into the second half and Leicester were pushing for the second goal of the game. Missy Goodwin's shot from the right side of the box was blocked by a Liverpool player.
A few minutes later, Scottish defender Sophie Howard's header from the centre of the box went out for a goalkick after a corner that was swung in by Courtney Nevin.
Liverpool made their first substitution in the 51st minute as Belgian striker Yana Daniels replaced Welsh defender Rhiannon Roberts.
As the 60th minute approached it was a very even game with both sides having chances at either end of the pitch.
Liverpool made two more substitutions in the 61st minute of the game as Sofie Lundgaard replaced Taylor Hinds and Natasha Dowie replaced Katie Stengel.
One minute later, the 20-year old danish midfielder Sofie Lundgaard took a shot from the centre of the box but the Leicester players manage to block it.
In the 68th minute Leicester made their first change of the game, Welsh midfielder Josie Green replaced 19 year-old Carrie Jones.
It was Liverpool's turn to attack again as Missy Bo Kearns' left footed shot from the centre of the box missed and went out for a goalkick.
Leicester's Sam Tierney was shown the yellow card for a bad foul in the 72nd minute.
Gemma Bonner's shot from the centre of the box is too high and goes over the bar for a goalkick, she was assisted by Megan Campbell with a headed pass following a corner.
One minute later, Hannah Cain's shot from outside the box was saved in the bottom left corner, before Aileen Whelan is found free inside the box, but took too long and allowed the Liverpool defender to clear the danger.
With just over ten minutes to go, Leicester made two more substitutions as English midfielder Molly Pike replaced Hannah Cain and 17-year-old Ava Baker replaced Missy Goodwin. In the 81st minute, Leicester keeper Janina Leitzig, attempted a through ball to Aileen Whelan, but the midfielder was caught offside
Leicester loanee Ruby Mace was shown the yellow card for a bad foul before Liverpool midfielder Melissa Lawley was also shown a yellow. CJ Bott was also shown the yellow card in injury time.
Liverpool piled on the pressure during injury time in hopes of scoring a last minute goal
In the 95th minute, Jasmine Matthews (Liverpool Women) header from the centre of the box was saved in the middle of the goal by the Leicester goalkeeper. 90+5
In the last minute of play, Belgian striker Yana Daniels' right footed shot from the centre of the box fired over the bar.
The match finished 1-0 to Leicester, who look like a refreshed and confident side.
The Foxes, who have six points, now sit one point behind second-bottom Reading with one game in hand. Liverpool are sat in eighth with 11 points.
