Chelsea put 8 past struggling Leicester to return top of the WSL table

Leicester City lost 8-0 against Chelsea in this afternoon's Barclay's Women's Super League fixture at the King Power Stadium.


There was drama early on after Guro Reiten's shot found its way into the bottom corner after just four minutes played to put Chelsea ahead. Jessie Fleming doubled Chelsea's lead just ten minutes later as Reiten turned provider.


The next three goals came from Chelsea's all time leading goalscorer, Fran Kirby, Niamh Charles and Sam Kerr.


Fleming made it six after 50 minutes played and substitute Beth England headed in the seventh. Kirby added an eighth to put Chelsea back on top of the WSL table.


Guro Reiten's shot from the edge of the box found its way into the bottom corner after just four minutes played to put Chelsea in front. Jessie Fleming doubled Chelsea's lead just ten minutes later as Reiten turned provider, pulling the ball back for Fleming, who slotted home from six yards out. Sam Tierney received a yellow card in the 36th minute for a late challenge on Johanna Rytting Kaneryd. Chelsea's third goal comes just three minutes later from Fran Kirby, as she fired it into the bottom left corner from the centre of the box with Reiten assisting again. Niamh Charles headed into the top left corner of the goal from the six-yard box two minutes later, with Reiten's assist following a corner. Just before half-time, Sam Kerr made it five for Chelsea with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner and Reiten added her fourth assist.


Five minutes into the second-half, Jessie Fleming scored Chelsea's sixth goal. Ten minutes later, Leicester City's Natasha Flint had a shot from outside the box saved by Ann-Katrin Berger in the top right corner. Leicester started to have more of the chances in the second half, with the Chelsea keeper being the busier of the two. Bethany England made it seven with a header from the middle of the box and into the bottom left corner, assisted by Alsu Abdullina's cross. Fran Kirby finished with the eighth goal of the game with a right-footed shot from close range.


Standings

Leicester still remain bottom of the table on no points, they remain four points off Reading but five from Liverpool.


Who's next?

The Foxes face Sunderland at the Eppleton Colliery Football Ground in the FA WSL Cup on Thursday, December 8 (7:30 p.m. kick-off). City will then face Liverpool at Prenton Park in the Barclay's Women's Super League on Sunday, December 11 (2 p.m. kick-off).
